The project focused on the conservation and adaptive reuse of the historic haveli of Kavi Santok Singh in Kaithal, Haryana. The scope involved comprehensive documentation and condition assessment to develop a sensitive conservation approach and adaptive reuse strategy, ensuring the preservation of the haveli’s architectural and cultural significance.
Role, Responsibilities & Outcome
As Conservation Architects, our scope of work included documentation, analysis, and planning to understand the building and its evolution. This involved managing a team of architects and conservation professionals to deliver documentation outputs, conservation planning reports, and detailed conservation proposals. The work included detailed architectural documentation, identification of historic and later materials, and structural assessment through site investigations and archival research. Condition mapping was carried out to record structural, masonry, and surface deterioration, including decorative features and elements of high aesthetic value. The team coordinated structural testing and technical studies to ensure accurate documentation of existing conditions. Based on these assessments, conservation strategies and detailed cost estimates were developed in coordination with specialist consultants. The project supported the preservation and revitalization of the haveli through adaptive reuse, while retaining its historic character and cultural significance.
